'Ya Beauty!': It's the Scotch Malt Whisky Society's 25th Birthday

Ever tried a 'Frisky whisky'? Love the amber nectar enough to 'Dab it Behind your ears'? The Scotch Malt Whisky Society is celebrating its 25th anniversary in true style with the launch of a distinctive new look.

Edinburgh, UK (PRWEB) November 8, 2008 -- The Scotch Malt Whisky Society is celebrating its 25th anniversary in true style with the launch of a distinctive new look, and the chance to taste an exciting new range of 43 rare whiskies with some very unusual names, such as 'Mediaeval Combat Dram', 'Rascally and sensuous' and 'Bruised pears on a ground sheet'.

The Society will this weekend launch a new look bottle, a new Membership Box and its largest ever bottling list of characteristically curiously named malts to appeal to its growing membership all over the world.

Christmas this year could be bringing a bottle of 'On a Carribean beach', 'Aromatherapy with chocolate' or 'Dab it behind your ears', for the true fans of Scotland's favourite tipple. The names aren't just to catch the eye though - they are created by an experienced, and imaginative, tasting panel - who believe a whisky should taste exactly like the name on the bottle. For example, a nip of 'Ya Beauty!' can be expected to deliver a powerful aroma, with a big palate, only for the brave whisky fan.

A new bottle has been specially commissioned, and features a distinctive new style and design, but retains the individualistic charm associated with the Society. Due to popular demand the new design now includes an individual tasting note on each bottle, with the Society's unique cask and distillery coding to help people choose their whisky more easily. Demand is expected to be high, with some whiskies only having 53 bottles available - once these whiskies are sold, they will be gone for good.

Paul Miles, managing director of The Scotch Malt Whisky Society, said: "We wanted to mark our 25th anniversary with our largest bottling yet, as a present to our members. The new bottle offers the contemporary touch that malt whisky lovers all over the world now expect, and the Membership Box is a stylish new introduction for joining members.

"We are looking ahead to the next 25 years with great excitement, inviting people to join in the adventure that Society membership offers. With our new range, bottle, membership pack and website, we are looking forward to extending our one of a kind whisky experience to members."

The Membership Box offers the perfect Christmas gift solution, giving new members much to whet the appetite, including four of the most delicious single cask 10cl tasting malts; a Member's Handbook; a Society Notebook; and a membership card which allows them to enjoy the Society all year round.

The new bottles are on sale online at www.smws.co.uk and the new winter bottling list, 'Outturn', contains 43 different casks from 41 different distilleries, ranging in age from 5 to 40 years old, offering a chance to taste from every region in Scotland.

The new bottling list and the Membership Box will be on sale from 8 November.
