Najib Omary named new executive director of Afghanistan Technical Vocational Institute

Vienna, Va. (PRWEB) November 10, 2008 -- Knowlogy International (www.knowlogy-intl.com) announced today the appointment of Najib Omary as Executive Director of the Afghanistan Technical Vocational Institute (ATVI) (www.atvi.edu.af). ATVI is the first post-war vocational school to educate male and female students in critical skills necessary for the future of Afghanistan. The school was developed by Knowlogy International Chairman A. Huda Farouki and former Afghan Ambassador to the United States and current ATVI Chairman, Ishaq Shahryar.

"We are pleased to have Dr. Omary as part of ATVI's team. He has achieved great things for the government of Afghanistan, and we look forward to even more contributions to the continued success of ATVI," said Mr. Farouki.

This coeducational, post-secondary technical vocational institute prepares graduates for employment in four sectors: information and communications technology (ICT), agriculture, construction and vehicle maintenance. As the new Executive Director, Dr. Najib Omary brings his extensive research and teaching experience to the institution. Dr. Omary previously served as the Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Director General to the Ministry of Education in Afghanistan, and the TVET Senior Advisor to the Minister, Ministry of Education, Afghanistan.

ATVI proudly celebrated its inaugural graduating class last Spring, and welcomed Dr. Omary on board with the goal of expanding the institution in mind. "Our objective is to have an annual increase of 200 students per year until we reach the maximum capacity of 5,000 students who will be attending the Institute at no personal costs," stated Mr. Farouki. "Dr. Omary's international reputation and experience will greatly enhance the international reputation of ATVI. We are looking forward to Dr. Omary playing a key role in the establishment of strong and lasting relationships with academic organizations worldwide."

About ATVI
ATVI (www.atvi.edu.af) is a co-educational facility in Kabul, Afghanistan, where students are competitively selected through an examination process for the one-year condensed course. ATVI provides training for male and female students, drawn from Kabul, other major cities, and the rural areas. As a co-educational institution designed to support and educate all potentially productive members of Afghan society, ATVI strives to maintain a minimum threshold of 10% female enrollment. Courses are offered in our key training sectors: Automotive Systems Technology, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Building and Construction Trades, and Horticulture. ATVI faculty and staff are highly qualified; all hold international educations, degrees, and certifications. More than half of the faculty members hold a Master's degree or higher.

In order to build a self-sufficient, income generating institute, ATVI incorporates profit centers as a major component of its operations. These profit centers benefit the Institute, the local community, and the student as they provide the hands-on experience needed to compound and complement the education provided in the classroom. Designed to be mutually beneficial, the profit centers offer students the opportunity to experience and train for their chosen career in a real-life environment, the local community purchasing the service is charged a competitive and affordable fee, and the provided revenue is used to maintain scholarship programs and facility upkeep.
