Graduates Choose Tax Office in National Careers Poll

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has been named as one of the most desirable employers for graduates, ahead of Coles, Commonwealth Bank and Telstra, according to a new survey by Gradient.

Sydney, NSW (PRWEB) November 12, 2008 -- The Gradient* survey interviewed 500 final year undergraduate students nationally and asked them to choose the organisation they would most like to work for from Australia's 20 largest employers.

Despite being a tough year for Qantas, the airline topped the table as the preferred employer among graduates, with Queensland Health in second place.

The ATO made the Top Five list of employers and proved a more popular choice than corporate icons like Rio Tinto, Coles and Commonwealth Bank.

Question - How much would you like to work for the following organisations?
1. Qantas
2. Queensland Health
3. BHP Billiton
4. Australian Taxation Office
5. Coles
6. Rio Tinto
7. Centrelink
8. Commonwealth Bank
9. Australia Post
10. Telstra

The full results of the Gradient research study will be unveiled in a white paper at the Australian Association of Graduate Employers Conference in Sydney on 19 November 2008 where Gradient will be officially launched.

Nat Cagilaba, Director, Gradient said: "The white paper takes a detailed look at what motivates this year's graduates and how employers can appeal to them. The findings show that careers in the public sector are still a popular choice among Gen Y, offering higher levels of job security and typically a better work life balance than roles in the private sector. The challenge facing all employers is how to reach graduates.

"Our experience in recruitment and employer brand shows that organisations are still suffering from a lack of innovation in the graduate recruitment space. Employers aren't spending the time to differentiate themselves from the competition: companies are offering similar training, packages and career progression while using traditional routes to communicate with graduates. There are huge opportunities to engage candidates throughout the recruitment process - from the initial creative strategy through to the day to day management of candidates.

"Gradient has been designed to identify and take advantage of these opportunities. It helps employers stand out from the crowd and understand which are the right graduates for their business, where to find, attract and engage them. It's about making your company the most attractive option for candidates from the first point of contact to their first day at work."

Gradient is a new venture from integrated communications agency, Daemon Group, and is designed to attract, select and recruit the right graduates for employers. Daemon Group is working alongside specialist recruiter, Chandler Macleod to provide a holistic approach delivered through one integrated team. Gradient manages the whole recruitment process - from creative strategy through to candidate management.
