Deal Expands Worldwide Presence; Increases Capital; Strengthens Management Team
New York and London (PRWEB) November 11, 2008 -- The CarbonNeutral Company, the world-leading carbon offset and carbon management company, today announced the acquisition of The GreenLife Organization LLC, a privately held New York-based provider of carbon management services. With this acquisition, The CarbonNeutral Company expands its global presence, providing carbon management services in a market estimated at more than $66 billion in 2007 . The CarbonNeutral Company will have two regional operating headquarters in New York and London, as well as offices in San Francisco and Washington, D.C., and a network of affiliates in Japan, Canada, France and UAE. An additional office will soon open in Asia.
"Together with GreenLife, we have one of the strongest brands and management teams in the carbon space. With a uniquely experienced global staff whose singular focus is climate and carbon, we are now better equipped to deliver world-class solutions for our clients and the environment," said Stephen Killeen, executive chairman of The CarbonNeutral Company. "Combine this with an enhanced financial and capital position, and The CarbonNeutral Company is extraordinarily well positioned to partner with global and local businesses of all sizes to help them meet emission reduction targets."
Established more than a decade ago, The CarbonNeutral Company has pioneered the industry and worked with nearly 200 carbon offset projects across six continents and more than 300 clients, including BSkyB, Barclays, Simmons & Simmons, Nets Basketball, Expedia and Avis Europe. The company's preeminent position is built on quality, experience and innovative programs, including the world's first proprietary protocol for measuring, reducing and communicating carbon management programs. Known as The CarbonNeutral Protocol, the standard underpins the CarbonNeutral® certification awarded to clients once emissions are reduced to net zero, using a program of third-party assessment, robust offsetting and transparent green claims.
The combined company's executive team includes Killeen; Neil Braun, CEO; Jon May, CFO; and Jonathan Shopley, managing director. As a senior executive in high-profile consumer, financial and technology companies for more than 15 years, Killeen's portfolio includes president and CEO of Worldwinner, president of TerraLycos, and serving on the boards of several public and private sector companies such as Shutterfly (NASDAQ: SFLY) and Lycos Europe (NL: LCY). Braun brings vast and diverse corporation management experience as president of NBC Television Network; chairman and CEO of Viacom Entertainment; and as a member of the board and audit committee of the IMAX Corporation (NASDAQ: IMAX). May has more than 17 years of large corporation experience including co-founder and managing director of Catalytic Capital LLC, a private equity firm, and senior operating roles at Triarc Companies, Inc. (NYSE: TRY) and Arby's, Inc. Shopley has more than 25 years of international business and environmental experience and has been instrumental in promoting collaborative relationships with governments, NGOs and industry associations worldwide to accelerate the pace and quality of voluntary action on climate change.
"It is more crucial than ever for businesses to adopt carbon management policies and systems that maximize efficiency and minimize emissions," Braun said. "The CarbonNeutral Company combines unparalleled experience and reputation with the resources to enable its business clients to achieve exactly that."
"Initially, we chose The CarbonNeutral Company for its long pedigree of achieving real business results for clients," said James Clark for Simmons & Simmons, a world-class international law firm and CarbonNeutral client. "Now, with more than two years as a CarbonNeutral® company, the expertise, integrity and high standards of carbon management services and offsetting projects which the company has provided has helped us to deliver on our emission reduction plan in order to match our global business needs."
The CarbonNeutral Company will continue its global expansion plan to create a global platform that enables corporations to reduce emission targets.
