New York, NY (PRWEB) November 13, 2008 -- The American Cancer Society welcomes the season of good cheer and well wishes with a holiday reception and tree lighting ceremony hosted at Hope Lodge New York City. Hope Lodge provides free lodging and services for cancer patients and their caregivers in a caring, compassionate, and home-like environment. The special holiday reception will be joined by award-winning designer, Michael Storrings -- best known for capturing the magical landscape and excitement of the holidays in his watercolors and hand-painted ornaments.

"The holidays are very meaningful to me, and for those Hope Lodge guests who can't be home, I hope to bring some joy to their stay," said Storrings.

For the past five years, Storrings has been designing holiday ornaments with scenes that weave the classic neighborhoods and icons of cities across America into a series of collectible hand-painted European blown glass ornaments. "A Very New York Christmas" book, just released by St. Martin's Press, showcases his designs with heartwarming quotations and bits of information about the holiday season in the city. Through the sales of his products on the American Cancer Society's Hope Shop Web site (www.TheHopeShop.org) and through special store promotions, Storrings is helping raise funds for the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge New York City.
