Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) November 13, 2008 -- On Sunday November 30, 2008 at 5 pm the Hollywood Community will gather at Hollywood Lutheran Church, 1733 N. New Hampshire Ave., Hollywood, CA to commemorate World AIDS Day with a multimedia musical event. The gathering is being organized and sponsored by Hollywood Remembers, a non profit community volunteer corporation. The Master of Ceremonies for the evening will be Jay London, finalist in the the popular Last Comic Standing television show. The program will showcase choral works, solos, video presentations, impersonators and a celebration of life. Recognition will be given to the progress that has been made in prolonging the lives of those living with HIV, as well as the unsung heroes of caregivers, doctors, nurses, family members and others.
Commemorating World AIDS Day 2008
Under the direction of Artistic Director Joe Lawrence, works will be performed from composers who have passed away from HIV/AIDS, including Howard Ashman (Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, Little Shop of Horrors), as well as performances of impersonators of such Hollywood Greats as Liberace (James Lent), Peter Allen, Hector Lavoe, Fela Kuti (Samuel Owens) and Freddie Mercury (Luca Spanio). Full screen video presentations will complement the performances. Panels from the AIDS Memorial Quilt will also be on display. A unique aspect of the event will be television monitors set up at various locations displaying slide shows of pictures, video clips, names and remembrances of those lost to HIV/AIDS. During the evening, guests will be invited to write names of their loved ones who have died from HIV/AIDS on small cards which then will be collected, mounted on a large banner, and raised above the proceeding.
