200 Teaching Scholarships Up For Grabs in Florida and Mississippi

ABCTE's Teach & Inspire Scholarship Program Recruits Career Changers to Teach in High-Need Subjects and Districts; Deadline is November 22, 2008

Washington, DC (Vocus/PRWEB ) November 13, 2008 -- The November 22, 2008 deadline for the American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (ABCTE) Teach & Inspire Scholarship Program is fast approaching, with 200 scholarships set to be awarded to professionals and recent college graduates interested in pursuing a teaching career in Florida or Mississippi.

"Florida and Mississippi are in desperate need of more teachers in high-need school districts and in high-need subjects such as math, science and special education. Someone who enrolls in ABCTE's Teach & Inspire Scholarship Program today could be making a difference with a classroom of their own by next fall," said ABCTE President David Saba.

ABCTE's Teach and Inspire Scholarship Program offers a full scholarship to earn teaching certification through ABCTE and a $1000 stipend, while requiring a 3-year teaching commitment in a high-need district and school. The scholarship program is currently open to anyone with a bachelor's degree who is interested in pursuing Florida and Mississippi state teaching certification.

Individuals can complete ABCTE's online certification program without additional college courses and while working full-time. In order to obtain certification, candidates must demonstrate mastery on subject area and professional teaching knowledge examinations. Program participants are given additional support and mentorship throughout their program and once they enter the classroom.

To date, the program has recruited more than 150 career changers and recent college graduates to enter the teaching profession with alumni already making a difference in Mississippi's Jackson district and Florida's Hillsborough, Polk and Duval districts.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, but those received before the November 22, 2008 deadline will be given first priority for scholarship funds.
