Penguin Computing Announces Support for the Enhanced Quad-Core AMD Opteron™ Processor in New HPC Server Offerings
Penguin Computing to incorporate the latest AMD offering, featuring significant enhancements to AMD's industry-defining native quad-core microprocessor technology.
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) November 13, 2008 -- Penguin Computing has announced its plan to support the upcoming release of the new Quad-Core AMD Opteron™ processor, built on 45nm process technology, in both rack mount (Penguin's "Altus Server" line) and blade server ("BladeRunner II") offerings for their High Performance Computing ("HPC") clusters.

Penguin's Altus Server line features AMD's new generation of Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors, code-named "Shanghai." This latest processor offers a number of innovative power management technologies including Enhanced AMD PowerNow!™ technology, with advanced performance-per-watt capabilities to help lower energy consumption. The new Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors also incorporate AMD Smart Fetch technology, which can help reduce power consumption by allowing cores to enter a "halt" state during idle times. With the combination of these power management innovations and dramatic gains in performance, the new Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor provides HPC customers significantly better performance in the same socket and thermal envelope as the previous generation of Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors.
