Prize Winning Poem 'Kiss, Kiss' Now Available

Open Competition winner of CSU Poetry Center Kiss, Kiss, and its controversial cover art now available.

(PRWEB) November 15, 2008 -- Selected from more than 650 manuscripts submitted to the annual Cleveland State University Poetry Center's competition, Kiss, Kiss now is out and available from the CSU Poetry Center at http://www.csuohio.edu/poetrycenter and from Amazon.com.

Kiss, Kiss, Ms. Harper's second, full-length collection is an eclectic collection of poems, many of which have been published singly in such journals as The Georgia Review, Nimrod, Southern Humanities Review, Southern Review and Rattle. The cover art, selected by CSU Poetry Center editors and with Ms. Harper's approval, breaks some traditional notions of what type of artwork poetry lovers more typically associate with poetry collections. The poems themselves seem also to be indelible.

"Reading Kiss, Kiss," according to Mary Biddinger, "...is like waking up in a srange bed with a new tattoo." Margot Schilpp, editor of Tupelo Press, asserts that to read this collection is "…to escape into another striking and memorable world, while never feeling as if you've completely left the familiar behind."

Ms. Harper, who taught in the English Departments of the University of Pittsburgh and University of South Carolina-Aiken, is also the author of five chapbooks., each of which was chosen in national competitions.

Her first chapbook, A Failure of Loveliness (Nightshade Press, 1994) won the William and Kingman Page Award. Her first full-length collection, Toward Desire (Word Works, 1996) won the 1995 Washington Prize. Her other chapbooks include Cataloguing VanGogh (Writers Voice, 1997 Hibiscus Award), The Wide View (White Eagle Coffee Store Press, 1998) for which she received a Georgia Author of the Year Award nomination and two Pushcart nominations. Buckeye won the 1998 Anabiosis Press annual chapbook award. She has been included in the Literary South Carolina, by Edwin C. Epps (Hub City Writing Project, 2004 Her latest chapbook to date is Blue Flute, published by Adastra Press, recently featured in Poets & Writers as one of the premier small presses publishing today.
