Triad Injury Attorney James Roane Helps Client Move Forward After Accident

Roane Law helps client mediate settlement in tragic motor vehicle negligence case.

Greensboro, NC (PRWEB) November 16, 2008 -- James Roane III, of Roane Law has a heart for people who have been injured. Having been the victim of a terrible accident himself, he knows first hand the difficulties accident victims face as they recover. In some cases, accident victims will never be the same again.

Before the accident, Roane's client, Mary (a pseudonym used to maintain her privacy), was a beautiful a 30-year-old woman with three young children. She was traveling home from a trip to the beach with her fiancée. The defendant, a drunk driver in a company vehicle, crossed the centerline and hit Mary's vehicle head-on. Her fiancée was killed and Mary sustained terrible injuries: her left toes had to be amputated, she sustained burns to her left foot and leg; a broken right foot; ruptured bladder; colon tear; wrist fracture; punctured lung and multiple jaw and face fractures.

Mary was airlifted to UNC Hospital and treated for internal injuries. After she stabilized, she began to undergo a series of surgeries, skin grafts and amputations. She spent two months at UNC Hospital before being discharged to her home. There she was bedridden and required in-home nursing home care for four months. Her mother cared for her around the clock. Following these four months Mary began a six-month stint of physical therapy until she could walk unaided.

"The injuries she sustained and the pain she endured - and continues to endure - is indescribably horrible," said Roane, who through mediation obtained a settlement amount of 3.8 million dollars, which included $500,000 in special damages for medical bills.

Today, Mary deals with permanent injuries. Her face and jaw are asymmetrical from her many surgeries. She has significant scarring to her abdomen, low back and left foot. She has difficulty playing with her children. The accident changed her life forever.

"We grateful for Mary's settlement, but what is the value of human life and suffering," stated Roane. "There's no amount of money that will ever compensate Mary for the loss of her loved one, the pain and suffering and the permanent injuries she sustained."
