Aprius Announces 80Gbps PCI Express Over Optics: Shows Path to 160Gbps with Innovative Transceiver Technology

An industry first, Aprius demonstrates an advanced computer interconnect that extends PCI Express 2.0 natively over fiber optics, up to 100m, providing 80Gbps of bandwidth. Technology is capable of running to 160Gbps, easily supporting PCIe 3.0 and higher.

The Aprius MMPe transceiver technology was designed to provide a substantial improvement in cost and power over other optics solutions available today

Sunnyvale, Calif. (PRWEB) November 18, 2008 -- Aprius Inc., a provider of advanced computer interconnects; today announced a new product that provides a PCI Express (PCIe) 2.0 x16 interconnect over fiber optics, up to a distance of 100m. Utilizing an innovative optical transceiver technology, developed by Aprius, the PCIe card provides up to 80Gbps bandwidth between a host server and target system. Aprius will be demonstrating the technology at the Supercomputing '08 show in Austin this week.

"The Aprius MMPe transceiver technology was designed to provide a substantial improvement in cost and power over other optics solutions available today", said Craig Thompson, Vice President of Product Marketing, Aprius Inc. "We view this as an enabling technology for a range of systems utilizing PCI Express as an interconnect and clustering solution. The bandwidth and low-latency performance of the technology means that it provides tremendous value to new applications, such as I/O and storage virtualization and high-performance clustering."

The parallel optics technology has been designed to operate at 10Gbps, or twice the encoded bandwidth of PCIe 2.0, providing a path to much higher performance interconnects. Initially, Aprius plans to utilize the technology to enable very low cost, low power 20, 40 and 80Gbps interconnects with the ease of use, distance and flexibility that optical cables provide. Going forward, the technology will be integrated into Aprius systems, currently under development.

About Aprius Inc.:
Aprius is a privately held, early stage, venture funded company in Silicon Valley developing high bandwidth server interconnect systems that bring new levels of scaling, resource sharing and low-latency performance to the data center.
