Mr. Evan Vickers Wins Utah District 72 Race for House of Representatives Seat
Independent pharmacist and United Drugs member is triumphant in southern Utah election
Phoenix, AZ (Vocus/PRWEB ) November 19, 2008 -- Evan Vickers, R.Ph., member and former board chairman of United Drugs, claimed an overwhelming victory in the District 72 House of Representatives race in Utah recently.
This is not Vickers first foray into politics. On a local level, he has served his community by securing a seat on his city council for 12 years as well as holding the position of Chairman of the Downtown Parking Authority. On a national level, Evan often visits Washington, D.C. to lobby Congress for improved health care. As an active advocate for community pharmacy, Mr. Vickers believes his position as a pharmacist and small business owner gives him a unique perspective on the issue.
“I am very honored to be able to serve in the Utah House of Representatives,” said Vickers. “The election was certainly a humbling and rewarding experience. As I look back on my political background, I realize how many doors that my profession has opened for me.” Vickers continued. “I would not be where I am today, if I had not chosen to pursue a pharmacy education. I hope that I will not only be able to serve the people in Utah but also have the ability to further the profession of pharmacy.”
As an alumnus of the University of Utah College of Pharmacy, Vickers is the pharmacist and owner of Bulloch Drug and Township Professional Pharmacy in Cedar City, Utah. Entering his 13th year as an independent pharmacy owner, Evan has established a successful pharmacy practice with his two stores. Bulloch Drug is an 8,500 square foot, traditional-style pharmacy featuring an old-fashioned soda fountain and a large assortment of gifts and cards. This store specializes in compounding (especially HRT and Pain Management), durable medical equipment, diabetic care, and consultative services to nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Township Professional Pharmacy is a 1,750 square foot store with a drive-up window, conveniently located next to a large hospital and several physician clinics.
Evan has represented his community and the pharmacy profession well. His credentials include serving on the United Drugs Board of Directors for 8 years (2 of which he held the Board Chairman position) as well as the Utah Pharmacists Association Board of Directors. Evan has also participated on various committees for pharmacy/business organizations including PCCA, NCPA, APhA, ACA and NFIB.
"Evan is a fine example of how more pharmacists today can be politically involved within their community and represent a pharmacist’s vital role within the health care system,” said Bruce A. Semingson, United Drugs chief executive officer. “He is a patient advocate and possesses a strong passion for change to our political process,” he continued. "I wish Evan the best and believe he will do a very good job for the state of Utah."
Mr. Vickers is making preparations to take office and will officially begin his term in January 2009. Besides trying to improve health care in Utah, he’ll also tackle challenges concerning education, the local economy and helping small business among others.
