Office Supply Headquarters Looks to Promotional Items for the Future
For over 40 years, Office Supply Headquarters has been the go-to supply store for East Coast businesses. Within the last few years the company has launched a website (OSHNY.com) and slightly changed their business model to add advertising items to their myriad of products and services.
Oceanside, NY (PRWEB) November 21, 2008 -- These days, it's difficult to find a true-to-heart family owned business. Brothers Bruce and Richard Appelbaum are the proprietors of an independent company known as Office Supply Headquarters, which -- in the last 40 years since its inception -- has become one of the leading suppliers in the New York area.
The Appelbaums historically have a strong tie. Their grandfather was the president of the Stationers Association in New York, while their father became involved in the office supply industry upon returning from World War II. Bruce and Richard took the helm in 1974 and 1976 respectively and started the House of Service. The House eventually morphed into Office Supply Headquarters where the brothers continue to reinvent the wheel.
Keeping up with the technology, they spent years developing a user-friendly website which, a year ago, resulted in the version that exists now at www.OSHNY.com. In addition to building a site, they also did something that few other office supply company does -- they got into the advertising promotions field.
"Because of the competitiveness and battling against super stores, we've tried to take a different direction," said Richard. "We're heavily into promotional items that include a wide variety of both everyday and unique items that can be imprinted with customer's logos and advertising."
Two years ago, the company joined the Advertising Specialty Institute when they realized that the businesses that they provided office supplies to had been buying their promotional material at other sources.
"This is an area that was largely overlooked by the stationery industry," said Richard. "In doing this, we're able to have a service that many of our customers look for and therefore, making their shopping needs that much easier."
"It's what sets us apart from the big box retailers," added Bruce.
Another huge factor that sets OSHNY.com from the super stores has been the longevity within the industry. "We try to feel that personal service is of the utmost importance," explained Richard. "Our customers have been loyal for 20 to 30 years and they've come to know us as a company that will go out of its way, as well as people who can what we can to help."
Certain aspects of the Appelbaums' business have changed. While their additional emphasis and the new blog they've set up at www.PromotionalProductInfo.com is new, what hasn't changed is their integrity. They are the sterling example of why independent and family-owned businesses are crucial in this country; OSHNY.com is not a disposable website, but rather two well-to-do brothers who could very well be your own brothers.
