Huda Farouki and Mrs. Samia Farouki were Sponsors of the American Red Cross Humanitarian Prize. Presented by the American Red Cross and the Atlantic publication, the inaugural prizes were awarded to Mr. Younis Al Khatib, President, Palestine Red Crescent Society, and Dr. Noam Yifrach, Chairman of the Executive Committee, Magen David Adom in Israel, at a luncheon on November 18 in Washington, DC.
The Humanitarian Prize recognizes individual achievements of bravery and dedication to the principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement by significantly improving the lives and living conditions in the most challenging regions of the world. It represents the highest honor given by the American Red Cross.
"It's a tremendous honor for us to be a part of the first ceremony to award this prize," said Mr. A. Huda Farouki. "We have great respect for the works of Dr. Yifrach and Mr. Al Khatib."
Younis Al Khatib is President of the Palestine Red Crescent Society, and Dr. Noam Yifrach has been the Chairman of Magen David Adom's Executive Committee in Israel for several years. Due to the historic work and collaboration of these two individuals and their organizations, coordinated humanitarian response for the people of Palestine and Israel have been established and improved. The Humanitarian Prize honors both their efforts.
"We hope that celebrating these achievements will encourage other leaders to focus on humanitarianism and working towards peace," stated Mr. Farouki.
