PassmoreLab production receives Audience Award at world's premiere 3-D Film & Interactive Festival.

As momentum builds and the buzz grows louder by the day in the worldwide entertainment industry, the spotlight was on 3D at the inaugural 3-D Film & Interactive Festival (3DFF) held in Orlando and Cocoa Beach, Florida, October 10-19. The event was the first of its kind, featuring a competitive festival program devoted entirely to digital 3D media. Stereoscopic content and technology developer PassmoreLab received the Audience Award (3-D Lounge Content) for its video production, "Las Pozas: Reality of a Dream," joining with other notable content award-winners, which included the feature film concert documentary "U23D" (dir. Catherine Owens and Mark Pellington/3ality Digital); feature film, "Scar 3D" (dir. Jed Weintroub/The Scar Company); music video, "Bjork -- Wanderlust" (dir. Encyclopedia Pictura 3D, support by UVPA); short music compilation, "Missy Elliot -- Ching-a-Ling" (dir. Dave Meyers); and others in the categories of interactive media and display, animation, animated ride film, technical, and various 3D technologies. Key sponsorship was provided by AMC Theaters, RealD 3D, Kerner Optical, The Dream Factory Studio, and View Master.

3DFF was founded by Christopher Crescitelli, chief creative officer of The Dream Factory Studio, who outlined the event's purpose, stating, "3DFF will be dedicated to driving innovations in the 3D entertainment industry and to help perpetuate the art and science of the medium. Through its biannual and touring non-profit festival programs, 3DFF will pay tribute to and honor the many companies, technologists, and content creators, who have in the past and are currently pioneering the future of the 3D stereoscopic motion picture and video game industries."

As part of the event, the Hilton Cocoa Beach Oceanfront resort hotel hosted the 3-D Film & Interactive Lounge, a unique and innovative environment featuring the new wave of 3D entertainment and technology, including video and game content, virtual worlds, television displays, and 3D cell phone technology. Sponsored by 3D software and content company DDD, along with event partners JVC, Samsung, Hyundai IT Corp., IZ3D, VZILLION, PassmoreLab, and MTBS3D.com, the 3-D Lounge treated attendees to the latest in immersive home entertainment.

The award-winning production from PassmoreLab showcased the stunning immersive experience of today's stereoscopic 3D. 'Las Pozas: Reality of a Dream,' examines an other-worldly Surrealist art colony located deep in the jungle of central Mexico and the eccentric British millionaire, the late Edward James, who designed and built its sprawling collection of massive concrete sculptures. Emerald green jungle, shaded pools, and tumbling waterfalls frame James' awe-inspiring sculptures with their themes of nature and the surreal elements of dreams, and are given a contemplative yet powerful visual perspective captured in 3D, which elevates the documentary form to an entirely new level.

Michael Page, PassmoreLab's creative director and music composer, and who produced and scored the Las Pozas documentary, commented, "I congratulate Christopher Crescitelli and The Dream Factory for presenting a very successful and informative 3D film festival. We had an exceptionally wonderful time interacting with people in the industry and the audience of 3D enthusiasts who attended the event, and we're very honored to receive the award for the Passmorelab 3D production 'Las Pozas: Reality of a Dream.' We definitely hope to see everyone again next year, and can't wait to see what our industry comes up with in the months to come. This is an exciting time for anyone who sees the remarkable potential of the 3D medium, and it's events like this that provide an important opportunity to see what's being developed, and to share ideas and move the technology forward."
