Aspiring UK Writers Make an Impression in Hollywood
For the fourth year in a row UK writers have been amongst the finalists of the Final Draft Big Break international screen writing contest, with a UK entry being in the top three both this year and last. This year saw Robert Bowden placed third with his Science Fiction thriller, A Child of Our Time.
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) November 27, 2008 -- UK writer Robert Bowden has been placed third in the Big Break international screen writing contest, run by Final Draft, with his Science Fiction thriller 'A Child of Our Time'. The winners were announced at the Big Break event in the heart of Hollywood before an industry audience.
An important aspect of the Big Break contest is the industry exposure it brings. Not only are the top ten finalists all read and placed by notable industry professionals, but Big Break also promotes them in the industry following the event. For the top three finalists themselves Big Break organized a day of meetings with a number of producers and managers who had expressed an interest in them, with one production company focussing on Robert's screenplay in particular.
Robert found the experience invaluable, saying, "Perhaps the most important thing for a screen writer trying to break into the industry is to get read by someone in a meaningful sphere of influence and at times this can seem almost impossible for someone on the outside. Being placed in the top three of the Big Break contest quite literally brought that mountain to me."
Competitions like Big Break clearly offer real opportunities for new writers and help new talent realise its potential.
