Counterterrorist Expert's Book Provides Roadmap for Cities and Countries to Protect Citizens from Attacks like Mumbai Attack

Advantage SCI CEO Elsa Lee, one of the nation's top security and counterterrorism experts says" her newly published book is a roadmap for protecting against terrorist attacks like the Mumbai Attack"

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) November 28, 2008 -- CEO of Advantage SCI (www.advantagesci.com) Elsa Lee says, "Preventing, detecting, and timely response to "early warnings" is critical but it can only work if a country, city, or organization has the skills to detect an attack while it is in the planning and reconnaissance stages. After that, it's too late." Lee says terrorism cannot be managed by one entity alone. It requires a partnership or collaboration between the public, businesses, law enforcement, and governments. Gone are the days when a country's military or government forces were the "targets" and the only responders." Elsa Lee is an author, retired counterintelligence/counterterrorism agent, and CEO of national security firm serving corporate and government customers with specialized consulting, training, and staffing services.

In her newest book, Homeland Security and Private Sector Business: Corporations' Role in Critical Infrastructure Protection, published by CRC Press, Lee provides strategies, tips, and best practices for the public, private businesses, and government entities to work together and make terror attacks difficult to carry out. She says "terrorism cannot be wiped out in our lifetime but it can be managed and controlled through hardening of facilities, buildings, and businesses and education." Educating the public on "early warnings" such as what terrorist behaviors look like reconnaissance stages they look like and even what smell may give off early warnings is the first step in building a country's terrorism deterrence program. Every attack studied after the produces evidence showing that reconnaissance took place months before the attack occurred. Reconnaissance is a critical step for the terrorists to be able to carry out the attack. This is because information has to be physically verified by a human at the actual location where the attack will occur and being there makes them vulnerable to detection - if people at the target location are highly vigilant and proactive in reporting suspicious acts or people that don't seem to belong there. Elsa Lee's book just hit the streets and opened strong even before the Mumbai attacks took the world spotlight. It is anticipated that sales will remain strong the more coverage we see on terrorist attacks. Currently the book is available online at Amazon.com and crcpress.com (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_b?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=Elsa+Lee and http://www.amazon.co.uk/Homeland-Security-Private-Sector-Business/dp/1420070789 )

The attacks in Mumbai are a clear sign that terrorists whether firmly or loosely affiliated with Al Qaeda are not ready to communicate their message in a diplomatic or civilized manner. Mumbai attacks also showed the world that the weapon does not have to be a "dirty bomb or an IED - improvised explosive device - a machine gun being fired randomly in hotels or hospitals gets the message across "loudly and clearly".

For people outside of India, Westerners, British Citizens, or American's - it's not so important to understand what motivated this attack - be it a conflict between India and another country or internal groups surfacing as home grown terrorists. What is important is that this can happen anywhere - and not everyone is willing to settle scores in a civilized manner. Any westerner that doesn't get this will only be taken by surprise when such attack occurs in his own backyard.
