Travel Insured International (http://www.travelinsured.com), a leader in travel insurance, is confirming for travelers the findings of a latest American Express survey of 1,100 American Express agents regarding current vacation traveler shopping trends. The results, according to American Express, found 77% of its agents report vacation travelers are looking for more bargains than in the past, and 53% of surveyed agents said vacation travelers are "purchasing travel protection for delayed and canceled reservations."

Travel Insured International has spotted the budget travel connection to travel insurance as a trend reflected in growing demand for our Worldwide Trip Protector Lite & Lite Expanded product. The plan, launched in 2008, is the most affordable, flexible and personalized travel insurance plan yet introduced by Travel Insured. While Travel Insured's flagship Worldwide Trip Protector comprehensive plan continues to attract travelers cautious about protecting international trips and longer cruises, Worldwide Trip Protector Lite & Lite Expanded has gained a wide audience among budget-minded vacation travelers for whom the plan was designed.

Other noteworthy American Express travel survey findings, announced Nov. 19, are that 86% of surveyed agents said clients seek "smart luxury" options featuring special treatment for less money, while 86.5 said vacation travelers are using travel reward points to offset vacation costs this holiday season. Vacation travelers are booking more "value-priced hotels," according to 47 percent of surveyed agents, while 40% said clients are booking shorter, closer-to-home flights. The best travel bargains found by 53% of the surveyed American Express Agents are in cruises, while tour packages now offer great deals, according to 38% of the agents.

Protect Against Defaults, Job Losses, Trip Delays

Bargain-hunting travelers should ask their travel agent about economic risk protection in Travel Insured's Worldwide Trip Protector plans. One key defense against uncertainty is that all Worldwide Trip Protector plans, including Trip Protector Gold for luxury trips and Trip Protector Lite & Lite Expanded designed for budget travel, include Trip Cancellation or Trip Interruption due to termination of employment as a covered reason. The benefit means that if you or your traveling companion is laid off after three continuous years of employment at the place where you are terminated, your trip can be covered up to the full benefits on the policy.

Another key feature included in all plans, with the exception of Worldwide Trip Protector Lite, is Financial Default and Bankruptcy Protection. This can provide up to full Trip Cancellation or Trip Interruption coverage against a bankruptcy or default of your travel supplier which occurs more than 14 days following the effective date of your policy. It is important to purchase a plan with initial trip deposit, or within 14 days of deposit, to secure this coverage.

Vacation travelers concerned about travel delays will be reassured knowing that every Worldwide Trip Protector plan includes between $500 and $1,500 per insured in Trip Delay coverage, and between $300 and $750 per insured in Missed Connection coverage, depending on the type of insurance plan selected.

International Travel Protection

Travelers selecting bargains now available on international cruises and tours, thanks to the sharply increased exchange value of the dollar and the elimination of fuel surcharges on plunging oil prices, should consider a Worldwide Trip Protector comprehensive plan. This plan offers high Emergency Medical benefits ($50,000 with an option to $100,000) and high Emergency Medical Evacuation and Repatriation ($500,000 with an option to $1 million). Such medical coverage for overseas travel is strongly recommended by the U.S. State Department, which reminds travelers on its web site (http://www.state.gov) that U.S. Medicare plans and most U.S. health care plans do not provide coverage for Americans outside the U.S.

Additionally, Worldwide Trip Protector has family-friendly travel features and options including Kids are Free, Cancel for Any Reason, Cancel for Work Reasons and Sports Coverage, all of them valuable in case unforeseen events disrupt your trip either before or after departure. Remember to book this insurance within 14 days of initial deposit to be able to qualify for several options.

Closer-to-Home Protection

Travelers selecting closer-to-home travel bargains should ask for Worldwide Trip Protector Lite & Lite Expanded. The Lite plan provides our most affordable premium and allows you to add the Trip Cancellation (Cancel for Any Reason, Cancel for Work) options you need to supplement strong basic coverage. Kids are Free is included, along with School Year Extension coverage in the Lite Expanded plan. Terrorism coverage is included in every plan, and the waiver of a Pre-Existing Medical condition can also be obtained in all plans except Worldwide Trip Protector Lite. But remember to purchase your plan within 14 days of initial trip deposit to qualify for several coverage features and options.
