Planet Tan Founder Tony Hartl Confirms Acquisition by Palm Beach Tan Premier Tanning Salon Chain Transfers Ownership after 13 Successful Years

Planet Tan, together with Palm Beach Tan - the nation's largest chain of tanning salons - have entered into a acquisition agreement that will transfer ownership of Planet Tan from founder and CEO, Tony Hartl, to Palm Beach Tan, Inc. The merger marks the end of a highly successful entrepreneurial endeavor for Hartl, who opened the original three Planet Tan locations more than 13 years ago.

"This merger between two of the most respected names in the industry will strengthen Planet Tan and take the company to a new level, as well as open new doors and avenues of growth," Hartl said in a statement to his staff. "I truly believe the best is yet to come for both Planet Tan and the indoor tanning industry."

The company will continue to operate under the popular Planet Tan brand that was built on an unlikely combination of hip and sassy marketing attitude with the advertising tagline, "Feed your ego," and friendly Midwest values that Hartl instilled in his workforce. The unique blend led to the company's motto, "Work hard, have fun, make history," and created an environment where people love to tan and employees love to work. In fact many of the staff in key leadership roles moving forward were promoted from within.

For Tony, at age 41, the change means an opportunity for new adventures. His immediate plans include running a marathon in December, followed by traveling the world for three months to hike, read, and, "try a lot of fantastic red wines." He is also looking forward to writing his first book, and appropriately, the subject will be business.

Since opening its doors on May 11, 1995, Planet Tan has grown into a 16-store chain and is well regarded as one of the premier collection of indoor mega-salons in the indoor tanning industry. In the Dallas/Fort Worth region, Planet Tan was named one of the "Best Places to Work" and one of the "Top 100 Fastest Growing Private Companies" by the Dallas Business Journal.
