First-of-its Kind Application Allows Audiences of Broadcast and Print News Organizations to Upload Photos of News as it Happens Via iPhone.

Cell Journalist, provider of user generated content solutions to television stations, newspapers and other media outlets, has launched its iPhone application, also known as an iPhone app, now available as a free download from the Apple iPhone App Store.

Cell Journalist's iPhone app is the first such application for user generated content platforms for local media outlets, according to Parker Pollidor, founder and president of Cell Journalist. The company's product enables anybody with an iPhone, cell phone, or other mobile communication device to upload images of news, weather and other events as they happen.

The additional functionality of the new iPhone application, which was developed in recent weeks by Cell Journalist's developers, integrates with Cell Journalist's current platform now in use by dozens of subscribing television stations, newspapers, radio stations, and syndicated media outlets.

The iPhone app for the Cell Journalist platform enables iPhone users to share news, information and events with the station or newspaper's audience in a single-step process that appeals to today's technology-savvy and news-hungry consumer.

The Cell Journalist iPhone application offers a number of benefits not previously available for subscribing media organizations, according to Jack Lail, news innovation officer at the Knoxville News Sentinel, which is a Cell Journalist subscriber. "For example, it allows us to put our own brand on the application, extending the bond between our reader and their trusted information source." said Lail. "Plus, the Knoxville News Sentinel now has its own custom branded application at the iPhone Apps Store, which by itself is pretty cool."

Additionally, iPhone's unique geographic locator feature allows the media organization to know where the user is located when they send their content, which is often important when breaking news and significant weather situations are involved, Pollidor noted.

Finally, the iPhone app allows the user to add more metadata to the image enabling the media organization to more quickly and accurately process the images it receives.
