BUILDER Magazine Wins American Business Media's Grand Littleford Award

Builder magazine awarded Littleford Awards by American Business Media.

American Business Media awarded BUILDER magazine the Grand William D. Littleford Award for Corporate Community Service and 1st runner up honors for its February 2008 story, "World Changers," alongside two notable builders, Tom Gipson and Jeff Rutt.

BUILDER and N.C.-based Thomas Gipson Homes' President Tom Gipson were honored with the Grand William D. Littleford Award for Corporate Community Service for Gipson's successful "Home Builder Blitz" for Habitat for Humanity, featured in BUILDER's February 2008 article, "World Changers." Gipson organized Habitat for Humanity's Home Builder Blitz, a five-day event in 2006 that drew 1,000 builders and trade partners to approximately 130 sites nationwide. In that week alone, 459 houses were built, making it the largest single event in the organization's history. Gipson followed up with a second builder blitz in 2008. Even with the housing market in a crisis, builders nationwide participated in building another 263 homes. The value of the homes built is approximately $50 million.

BUILDER also tied for 1st runner up for its story on Jeff Rutt, President of Keystone Custom Homes. Rutt founded Hope International, a micro-credit organization that has made small loans to more than 200,000 entrepreneurs in 13 countries. Rutt is also featured in BUILDER'S February 2008 story, "World Changers."

The William D. Littleford Awards for Corporate Community Service recognize companies, organizations or individuals that are involved in active community service programs aimed at alleviating critical social problems. Littleford established this award to raise the visibility of the business media editorial product, to encourage increased coverage and recognition of community service success stories and to motivate other organizations to apply such solutions in their own communities.
