Independent Bank associates throughout Michigan participated in National Get Smart About Credit Day by visiting local high schools and providing lessons about credit, budgeting and identity theft protection.

Ionia, MI (PRWEB) December 6, 2008 -- Independent Bank associates throughout Michigan participated in National Get Smart About Credit Day by visiting local high schools and providing lessons about credit, budgeting and identity theft protection.

In partnership with the American Bankers Association Education Foundation, financial leaders throughout the country spoke with local young people about the importance of developing and maintaining healthy financial habits early in life.

Using lesson plans and resources from the ABA, Independent Bank associates presented to students in grades 9 through 12. The lesson plans provided practical information about how credit works, recognizing the warning signs of credit trouble and the link between budgeting and the responsible use of credit. Through hands-on exercises and lessons, students learned how financial decisions, especially those made in young adulthood, will have an impact for years to come.
