New Alternative to Vertical Carousels provides refrigeration option for hospital pharmacies

BoxPicker is an automated medication storage and retrieval system for hospital pharmacies that provides secure dispending of medications and supplies, including narcotics and controlled substances - the ideal alternative to vertical carousels. BoxPicker has unique controlled access drawers that open one at a time, ensuring safety, security and efficiency. Only authorized users can access the contents, and control software tracks inventory, access and interfaces with the hospital's information systems. The system is also faster than vertical carousels, enhancing hourly throughput and production. Unlike carousels, BoxPicker has expandable modules to meet the hospital's specific storage needs.

The Dual-Temperature BoxPicker eliminates the need for pharmacy refrigerators while providing secure access and electronic tracking of each specific item. Refrigerated sections are contained within the same BoxPicker as non-refrigerated sections.

In addition, BoxPicker supports hospital pharmacies installing clean rooms to meet the sterility requirements of Unites States Pharmacopia (USP) 797 for manufacture of compounding products. BoxPicker provides a combination storage and pass-through capability to a clean room using operator stations on opposite of sides the BoxPicker, enabling access to compounding products from inside and outside the clean room. Products are stored on the pharmacy side and retrieved from the clean room's ante room, eliminating gowning and degowning when delivering stock.
