Specialized Services (SSC) EVP to lead session in San Antonio to discuss Small Boring Unit (SBU) - a ground breaking alternative to hand-dig installations in hard, rocky soil conditions.

SPECIALIZED SERVICES COMPANY (SSC) announced that Arvid Veidmark III, the company's executive vice president and senior estimator, will participate in UCT's International Conference & Exhibition on Tuesday, January 20, 2009, 10:30 am. The session title is "SBU-a ground breaking alternative to hand-dig installations." In the session, Veidmark will discuss typical utility installations in hard rock, caliche and cemented cobbles, and compare in two case studies the benefits of SBU over the longstanding hand-dig method. Equipment and labor costs will be considered, as well as increases in daily production, drive limitations, and adaptation with the standard boring machines.

Veidmark has more than two decades of trenchless operational experience and holds multiple licenses and certifications. In addition to estimating and consulting for this 40 year-old family-owned company, he hosts monthly seminars at his corporate office in Phoenix to educate construction professionals on the benefits of trenchless technology.

The session, part of the Underground Utilities track, is in conjunction with a three-day educational program. The event will be held at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, TX. The expected UCT audience will include owners, contractors, consulting engineers and others who are interested in learning more about the installation and rehabilitation of the underground infrastructure industry.
