Former VP Sales and CEO brings 25 years of experience to Austin startup

Phurnace Software, Inc., the Java application deployment company, today announced the appointment of John Balena to the role of Vice President of Sales & Services. He will have responsibility for all sales and services strategy and execution for the company. Balena has over 25 years of sales leadership experience with large technology companies including IBM, BMC Software and Symantec and with startup companies including two ventures that he helped start. He was most recently the CEO of Prime Paradigms International, a Symantec Platinum Value Added Reseller, providing consulting and implementation services for I.T. Governance, Risk and Compliance Management projects.

Earlier in his career, Balena led the worldwide mid-market sales organization for Symantec. Previous to Symantec, he was EVP of Worldwide Sales and Marketing for ComplyChain, an innovative startup that offered a software as a service solution for linking I.T. infrastructures. At BMC Software, Balena was General Manager of Federal Operations in Washington, DC and at IBM he held various sales and sales management positions. Balena has a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Management from Penn State University.
