New York, New York (PRWEB) December 11, 2008 -- Manhattan wine and spirits retailer Sherry-Lehmann, Inc. today announced that longtime wine educator, taster and Bordeaux ambassador Robin Kelley O'Connor is joining the firm in a new position as director of sales and education. In early 2009, O'Connor will begin developing a consumer-friendly schedule of educational events at Sherry-Lehmann's store on Park Avenue at 59th Street.

O'Connor has been involved in every aspect of the wine and spirits trade, from sommelier and international wine judge to importer and journalist. At the end of 2007, O'Connor was chosen as editor of Kevin Zraly's 25th Anniversary Windows on the World Complete Wine Course, to be published in late 2009. He was one of the first Americans named as "International Bordeaux Educator" in 2006, after passing the intensive Bordeaux Wine School course. O'Connor served as president of the Society of Wine Educators from 2003-2007, is on the board of directors of the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Wine & Food, and for 17 years has been a regular panelist every June at Food and Wine Magazine's Classic in Aspen.

"Bringing Robin into the Sherry-Lehmann family is a natural for us," says Sherry-Lehmann executive vice president Chris Adams. "Over the past five-plus years we've worked together in conjunction with our Sherry-Lehmann/Kevin Zraly Master Classes, and in that time we've admired Robin's incredible wine knowledge, his industry experience and his immense stores of energy and enthusiasm."

A Maryland native, O'Connor's initial study of wine was of the Burgundy region, as a student at the University of Maryland. He later worked as a student winemaker for two years in Bordeaux, France, at Etablissement Jean-Pierre Mouiex's various chateaux in the Pomerol, Fronsac and Saint-Emilion regions as well as their famed Chateau Petrus. He also produced Champagne with the House of Krug, and worked several harvests elsewhere in France and Switzerland. O'Connor also spent a year making wine in the northern Spanish province of Navarra.

"Sherry-Lehmann will benefit immensely from Robin joining our team," says Adams. "This step is part of our continued effort to manage our growth by maintaining our focus on what has distinguished us for 75 years--industry leading retail excellence."
