Jessica Kaplan, a Maine Prep master teacher who teaches English and SAT prep at South Portland High School, has been chosen to UNUM's Maine Educators' Hall of Fame. Maine Prep (http://www.maineprep.com) is Maine's largest SAT and ACT prep company and has helped thousands of students raise their SAT and ACT scores and be more competitive when applying for college admission and merit scholarship aid. Founder Jack Mahoney says, "Admissions directors have long conceded that they often weight SAT scores more heavily than grades. In these tricky economic times, it pays to remember that higher SAT scores also can attract large offers of merit aid, with which colleges hope to attract top students who, if economics were not a factor, would be likely to choose another college or university. For example, just this week one of our students who raised her scores 280 points between the PSAT and SAT received from a top college a four-year scholarship offer of $96,000."
Maine Prep, which continues to expand its test prep services, now provides more than 25 SAT courses per year throughout Maine. Classes and private tutoring are held in Bangor, Brunswick, Bridgton, Cape Elizabeth, Lewiston/Auburn, Kents Hill, Kennebunkport and two locations in Portland - Deering High School and Catherine McAuley High School.
