One Economy Corporation, a global nonprofit that leverages technology to help people improve their lives, and actor/director Robert Townsend have premiered Diary of a Single Mom, a new online video series that looks at the chaotic and rewarding lives of three single mothers who are trying get ahead in a world that holds them back. The show brings together One Economy's eight-year history of creating online media that connects people to the information they need and Robert Townsend's experiences growing up in a single-parent household in Chicago and as a seasoned director.
In the first season's eight-episode arc, which will begin airing January 27, the main characters tackle issues including getting a GED, finding a new job and coping with a significant medical problem. Diary of Single Mom will air on the Public Internet Channel (http://www.PIC.tv), a new public-purpose online network. All of the programming on the Public Internet Channel is relevant, current, and accessible--and always with a clearly defined public purpose.
"Diary of a Single Mom is a quintessential human story that shows how our spirit can triumph, even in tough circumstances," said Rey Ramsey, chief executive officer of One Economy. "The Public Internet Channel expands the potential of online video, combining these stories with the tools and resources people need to take action based on what they have seen."
Diary of a Single Mom illuminates the challenges and triumphs of three women struggling to create lives that sustain them and their families. Their stories inform, engage, and inspire viewers to take action. The show is the first production of the V Studio (http://www.v-studio.tv), the virtual studio for public-purpose media. Under Robert Townsend's leadership, the V studio will bring together talent from across the entertainment industry--including Diary of a Single Mom actors Monica Calhoun (The Best Man, Love & Basketball, Sister Act 2), Janice Lynde (Six Feet Under, General Hospital, One Life to Live), Valery Ortiz (South of Nowhere, Date Movie, 10 Items or Less), Billy Dee Williams (Private Practice, Batman, Star Wars Episode V:The Empire Strikes back, Star Wars Episode IV: The Return of the Jedi, Lady Sings the Blues) and Richard Roundtree (Se7en, Shaft, George of the Jungle).

Yesterday's premiere at the Creative Artists Agency in Hollywood brought together leaders from media, entertainment and the civil rights and nonprofit sectors. One Economy will host additional screenings for single moms and community organizations around the country in the coming months.
