Math tutoring is now available in South Carolina at EsumZ.net to help children gain knowledge on the particular subject. Free lessons will be given to students who receive free or reduced price lunches and attend a Title I school in its second year or beyond of school improvement.
For those who do not exactly know what a supplemental educational provider is, they give additional academic instruction, designed to increase the academic achievement of students in low-performing Title I schools.
Each session lasts from an hour to an hour and a half for three days a week. These lessons are either individual (1:1) or in a small group (1:5) and are led by state certified tutors and trained graduate teachers.
EsumZ was founded by Venkat Radhakrishnan, Vice President of the Hartford Group.
"Our main goal is to increase children's self confidence, help them with problem solving and bring to them a lifelong enjoyment and interest in numbers," he said.
The curriculum, contents and assessment tests are all based on South Carolina State Standards. Students who participate are expected to have access to a computer, internet connection and a headset, from the school computer lab or from their homes.
In each class, students and teachers meet in an online class room, which is equipped with white board. Using the tool, teachers will write and explain sample math problems.
"EsumZ believes live tutoring, students accessing online lessons and taking tests regularly will help improve his/her performance. This methodology has proven to be effective for several of our private tutoring students. We observed a 23% increase in student scores as measured by us in a pilot study," Radhakrishnan explained.
EsumZ is the online math learning portal owned by the Hartford Group Inc., a NJ-based educational services company.
