Dublin, Ireland (PRWEB) December 11, 2008
University College Dublin (UCD) Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School, Ireland's leading business school and research center, announced today that it is the first institution in the country to recognize Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic, a new computer-based academic English language test that measures the language skills of non-native English speakers. Consistently ranked in the "Financial Times" top 100 global full-time master's of business administration programs, the postgraduate school is one of 25 worldwide to have attained the "triple crown" of accreditation from accrediting organizations in the United States, Europe and the United Kingdom.
"Students from throughout Europe and around the world come to UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School to prepare to be the business leaders of the future," said Professor Tom Begley, Dean UCD Business Schools. "We are recognizing PTE Academic because we know that it will provide us with an accurate and reliable measure of the English language ability of candidates for admission that we can use to determine if they are prepared to succeed in our intense programs."
UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School is renowned as a worldwide leader in business education and research. Today its graduates are successful leaders in the top companies and organizations in Ireland, Europe and around the world.
"PTE Academic is the perfect measure of English language ability for a school with academic programs that require a lot of interaction with other students and group presentations, such as the courses of study at UCD Michael Smurfit Business Graduate School," said Mark Anderson, President, Pearson Language Tests. "Our new test provides specific scores for enabling language skills, such as fluency and pronunciation, to give admissions officers the full picture of test takers' English language abilities."
Pearson combined the power of comprehensive field tests, in-depth research and proven, proprietary automated scoring technologies to develop PTE Academic. The test will fill a critical gap by providing a state-of-the-art assessment that accurately measures the English language speaking, listening, reading and writing abilities of non-native speakers.
PTE Academic will deliver real-life measures of test takers' language proficiency to organizations requiring academic-level English. The test is designed to better predict the ability of test takers to function in an academic environment where English is the language of instruction.
PTE Academic received the endorsement of the prestigious Graduate Management Admission Council® (GMAC®), owner of the Graduate Management Admission Test® (GMAT®) and is being developed and offered to students in collaboration with GMAC®. The test will be launched internationally in October 2009.
