London, UK (PRWEB) December 11, 2008
For the third consecutive year, Alfresco Software, Inc., leading open source alternative for enterprise content management, was named to EContent magazine's 2008 EContent 100 list of companies that matter most in the digital content industry.
"With the EContent 100 Award, we look to honor the most innovative and brightest companies offering digital content solutions," said Michelle Manafy, Editor-in-Chief of EContent Magazine. "We had 14 industry experts critically evaluate and discuss each company presented, selecting those that enable organizations to maximize the use of digital content to help them achieve success. We are pleased to recognize Alfresco again this year for its industry leadership. Over the past year, Alfresco has continued to enhance its software solutions, providing customers with advanced opportunities in content management."
Alfresco has seen major adoption of its open source enterprise content management (ECM) system throughout the world. The Alfresco product has been downloaded 1.5 million times since the company was launched in October 2005. There are currently 50,000 active deployments of Alfresco and over 600 Enterprise Subscription customers, including the NYSE, the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland, Los Angeles Times, Sony Pictures, Activision, the French Air Force, Kaplan, FedEx and KLM.
"We are honored to be recognized by EContent for the third year for our content management capabilities," said John Powell, CEO and Co-founder, Alfresco Software. "Now more than ever, enterprises need content management tools that are easy to use, increase worker collaboration and most importantly allow companies greater choice in their technology infrastructure. The Alfresco team is committed to making content management accessible and affordable to all enterprises as demonstrated with our recent release of Alfresco Enterprise 3 and leadership in the new CMIS draft specification."
Alfresco recently released a white paper outlining the Total Cost of Ownership of ECM, based on publicly available pricing from a range of vendors. The white paper aims to demystify some of the complexity around current proprietary ECM pricing and demonstrate how choosing and implementing an open source ECM solution can be a transparent and cost-effective process.
