Irving, Texas (PRWEB) December 17, 2008 -- First Choice Power awarded 26 Texas nonprofits 2008 Reduce Your Use GrantsTM. The $1,000 Reduce Your Use Grants provide funding for energy-efficiency products and services to reduce nonprofits' energy usage and costs now and in the future. The grant money awarded statewide totaled more than $25,000.

"Reduce Your Use Grants help our community partners decrease their energy use, be more energy efficient and have resources for their mission and clients," said Michael Swart, vice president of marketing for First Choice Power. "There also is a long-term benefit for our nonprofit partners as Reduce Your Use Grants are for energy savings now and in the future."

Texas 501(c) 3 nonprofits in communities served by First Choice Power applied. Programs receiving funds are:

  • Avondale House in Houston: The house will use the grant money to insulate the attic in one of their residential group homes. The insulation will lower energy use and save money.
  • Brazoria County Historical Museum in Angleton: The museum plans to purchase a new ENERGY STAR compliant refrigerator. It will be used to preserve and sterilize Brazoria County artifacts ranging from native seeds to historic documents.
  • North Montague County Historical Society and Museum in Nocona: To be more energy-efficient, the nonprofit will install solar power lighting in the parking lots, driveways and sidewalks of the new museum.
  • Riverbend Retreat Center in Glen Rose: The camp will use the grant to install a radiant barrier shield in one of its cabins. This reflective insulation will dramatically reduce the amount of energy required to heat or cool a building.
