Nursing Scenarios Bring Laerdal VitalSim Manikins to Life
Laerdal Continues to Meet the Needs of Nurse Educators With Training Scenarios for the Nursing Community.
Wappingers Falls, NY (PRWEB) December 24, 2008 -- Building on the success of the first volume of Simulation in Nursing Education Scenarios and in response to growing interest from nursing educators across the United States, Laerdal Medical Corporation and the National League for Nursing have expanded the application of these scenarios to the VitalSim™ line. The Simulation in Nursing Scenarios on VitalSim are the most recent addition to Laerdal's growing courseware portfolio.
The scenarios, originally created for SimMan, have been reprogrammed to operate on the complete line of VitalSim capable manikins, which include MegaCode Kelly Advanced, ALS Simulator, Nursing Anne™, and Nursing Kelly™. Each VitalSim Manikin has different capabilities, resulting in some differences in how each will respond to the NLN Nursing scenarios.
Nursing Kelly, for example, has been designed to train students how to measure blood pressure and monitor vital signs (breathing, blood pressure, heart and lung sounds). This full-body male manikin facilitates practice in wound assessment and management and is perfect for beginning education for in-hospital health care professionals. Nursing Anne is a flexible full-body female manikin that can be utilized for clinical training in women's health, obstetrics, post-partum care, and wound assessment.
Laerdal and the NLN are also working together to develop a second volume of the popular Simulation in Nursing Scenarios for SimMan and SimMan3G Simulators. These scenarios will address critical thinking among nursing students by focusing on patient safety competencies and conditions that are commonly seen in a health care environment. The scenarios will provide cases for both basic and advanced nursing students.
