Pangea Media Survey Finds that Parents Look to Cut Back this Holiday while Tweens/Teens Plan to Spend More

Pangea Media, the leader in online quizzes and quiz technology, has released the results of its latest "Pangea Pulse," which tracked the attitudes and preferences of its tween and teen users towards their holiday spending habits.

In a recent Christmas Shopping survey conducted on Quibblo.com, tween and teen users were asked where they will shop for gifts this holiday. Fifty-nine percent responded that they plan to shop in-store rather than online, while 31 percent plan to buy gifts both online and in-stores. When asked how much they will spend on gifts, most (51 percent) said that they will spend under $100, while 30 percent plan to spend between $100 and $500.

In comparison to last year's spending, 48 percent felt that it was about the same amount, while 28 percent will spend more this year and 14 percent will cut back. Additionally, 34 percent of the respondents said their parents will spend less on gifts this year due to the economy, while 49 percent were not sure how much their parents plan to spend. Thirty percent said their parents have talked to them about the recession and 13 percent said they've had a parent that has been laid off in recent months.

Thirty-seven percent of the respondents said that they will buy electronics, CDs/DVDs and video games; while 31 percent chose apparel and 19 percent plan to give gift cards as presents. When asked to identify the worst Christmas gift they've ever received, more than 34 percent said undergarments, and 29% said toys that were "too young for them."
