We went to our business leaders and asked them to take a more prominent role in the economic development of our region
Fort Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) December 31, 2008
Leading a campaign of aggressive business development in the face of historic economic upheaval, Kathy Koch, President of Ambit Advertising and Public Relations (http://www.ambitmarketing.com) completed her year as 2008 board chair of The Broward Alliance on a team with many missions accomplished.
During her term, The Broward Alliance, Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County's official public/private partnership for economic development, launched a major initiative to drive business development, promote the county as a world-class brand to attract companies considering relocating or expanding, and develop and strengthen private sector leadership in economic development efforts. The results in 2008 have been impressive, with $58 million in capital investment, the creation of more than 1,100 new jobs and the retention of more than 1,500 jobs. All during a nationwide economic meltdown.
Koch, whose Fort Lauderdale advertising agency and PR firm is known for its hands-on approach to helping position businesses in the region for long-term success, gives special credit to the response from the business community for fueling Broward's year of surprising growth in a sluggish economy.
"We went to our business leaders and asked them to take a more prominent role in the economic development of our region," said Koch. "Their response was swift and determined, putting their money and volunteer leadership to work, with $1.3 million in new funds pledged so far to market Broward to attract companies to move their corporate and regional headquarters here."
While The Broward Alliance's ongoing efforts to promote the benefits of relocating, growing and retaining businesses in Broward County faces formidable challenges in 2009, Koch believes that the revitalized emphasis on public and private sector collaboration will continue to build a strong and more diverse economy going forward.
"This year has reconfirmed for me the power of strategic thinking, the strength of collaboration, and what can be accomplished when business leaders join ranks and say 'we will make this happen'," said Koch. "In my professional experience at Ambit working with businesses to shape effective marketing campaigns, the collaborative effort is always the key change agent in stimulating real growth and sustained bottom-line results."
