A Murrysville, Pennsylvania, resident won $15,000 from ActiveAmericans.com as the Grand Prize in the website's national online sweepstakes. Barbara Custer was presented the check by Scott Haycraft, Founder/CEO, on December 19 at the Panera Bread store in Murrysville. This is the second Grand Prize awarded by the year-old website. In 2008, the website has awarded $100,000 in cash, gifts and prizes to its members.

One outgrowth of the site's growth and membership participation is the formation of clubs. Today also represents the inaugural meeting of our Pittsburgh Club. To celebrate that, we are making additional donations to one of our targeted national non-profit organizations, Meals on Wheels.

Barbara Custer of Murrysville, PA, won the $15,000 Grand Prize from the national website for people 50 and over, http://www.ActiveAmericans.com .

Custer was selected at the conclusion of a two-month online sweepstakes from fifty semi-finalists.

The sweepstakes generated more than 50,000,000 hits during its run from early October until early December.

Custer was presented her check at the Panera Bread in Murrysville on Friday, December 19, by Scott Haycraft, Founder/CEO of the website.

Approximately 100 other ActiveAmericans attended, receiving $5 Panera Gift cards and ActiveAmericans.com T-shirts.

Custer said, "I'm thrilled! I just can't believe it. This was Heaven sent. This couldn't have come at a better time."

Custer lives in Murrysville, near Pittsburgh, and works in electronic publishing for Westinghouse Electric Company. The Boston native is a mother of two grown children and previously was a high school tennis coach in the Cleveland, OH, suburb of Rocky River.

Haycraft said in presenting her Grand Prize, "We are tremendously excited to present this check to Barbara. Since our launch in January, our members have earned nearly $100,000 in rewards. Some of that has been in large rewards, such as this check and the brand new Chevy Cobalt we awarded in early October. Most has been in small rewards such as gift cards like the ones we're giving away today here at Panera Bread."

"Our goal as a business is to encourage membership growth by rewarding members for participating on the site and enjoying our content. Rather than spend tens of thousands of dollars on buying media and hoping to attract visitors, we prefer to build our reputation through our membership. So far, this has worked beyond all expectations in our business plan.

"One outgrowth of the site's growth and membership participation is the formation of clubs. Today also represents the inaugural meeting of our Pittsburgh Club. To celebrate that, we are making additional donations to one of our targeted national non-profit organizations, Meals on Wheels."

ActiveAmericans.com , headquartered in Hudson, OH, is a lifestyle website appealing to adults 50 and over. Since its launch in January, 2008, it has grown rapidly averaging more than 1,000,000 hits daily. It has become a trusted source of information on critical issues facing Active Americans, including personal finances, medical developments and insurance.

AAC does not accept money from any connected with these industries, nor does it sell or rent its membership list to anyone for any reason.

Haycraft explained, "Our members earn reward points for visiting and participating. Points are exchanged for cash and other rewards. Since January, we have distributed almost $100,000 back to members through our rewards program and donations.

"This is unheard of from most small companies, much less a start-up. One company earned national publicity for its inspired search engine marketing because it gave away $100,000 over five years. We've done that, and more, in less than a year.

"Unlike AARP, at AAC we do not sell or endorse insurance or sell our membership information to telemarketers. We do the exact opposite: we invest in them. Our membership is free. Our promises to them are inviolate."
