Ida Muorie, host of the Sportsmavericks show, started the evening by quoting the Tennessee all-time winning Coach Pat Summit, "rebounding wins championships, you need to emphasize it and work with kids on it." As the names of the Sportsmavericks winners were read, the audience of cheers grew louder until the long awaited names of the Sportsmavericks All Stars were announced. "Presidential Candidate , Senator Hillary Clinton has been named the 2008 Sportsmavericks All Star Award winner." And this is what Ida Muorie had to say about Hillary.

Andre Caldwell put education first and NFL money last by returning his senior year. In 2007, Andre had 56 receptions and 761 yard with 7 TD's in a crowded field of elite athletes at Florida. Andre is expected to be drafted on the first day of the 2008 NFL Draft.

"Hillary exemplifies the qualities of our previous winners of the Sportsmavericks All Stars, individuals like Max Starks of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Chris Leak SEC quarterback, Henry Lawrence former NFL Player and migrant worker and the Williams Sisters. Each elite athlete had to fight against insurmountable odds, and they had to fight controversy when they were not popular as well. The key elements that connect these elite individuals are education, service, dedication, community, family, education and the determination." Hillary has demonstrated that she can play on any NCAA, NFL, NBA, NHL, Major League Baseball team and win. "Pat Summit, the coach of the Tennessee Lady Volunteers was named to the Sportsmavericks All Century Team, as the winningest female coach." Pat has seven national championships, which is the most among all women coach and second among any college coach. In April 2007, Pat received the John R. Wooden Award's Legends of Coaching award. Pat became the first women's basketball coach to be honored. During the Rutgers University controversy she maintained her dignity and she inspired her Girl volunteers to reach out to the losing team and be a friend not a foe.

"Willie O'Ree was named as the Sportsmavericks Legend of 2008 and the Jackie Robinson of Hockey." Willie O'Ree was the first African American player in the NHL, playing with the Boston Bruins. O'Ree was 95% blind in his right eye due to being hit there by an errant puck. Normally this would have precluded him from playing in the NHL. However, O'Ree managed to keep it secret, and made his NHL debut for the Bruins on January 18, 1958, against the Montreal Canadians. Although O'Ree played during 1957-58 and 1960-61 season, O'Ree first official rookie card didn't come out until the 1997-98 season when one card company, Pinnacle inserted O'Ree into its authentic Beehive picture and set. Today, O'Ree autographed version of the Beehive card sells for around $25. In 1998 O'Ree was named director of youth development of the NHL/USA Hockey Diversity Task Force, overseeing a not-for-profit program designed to introduce children of diverse ethnic background to hockey in 20 North American Cities.

Lorena is also a graduate of the University of Arizona, And has over 17 tour victories and is the winner of the 2007 Women's British Open. Lorena understand that she has had to wait a long time to be no.1 in women's golf, but she does not regret making the long sacrifice to get to the top. "Lorena Ochoa didn't have a blueprint for being the best in the worl, nor a role model, but she had determination."

"Andre Caldwell is named as the Sportsmavericks 2008 Male Athlete of the Year. Andre Caldwell, Florida Gator Senior scores on the Senior Bowl's final play and Georgia kicker Brandon Coutou kicked the extra point to give the South a 17-16 victory over the North. In a photo finish of Andre Caldwell's college career he finishes that part of history to finish the game with the big play of his life in front of pro scouts and NFL coaches and personnel in Mobile, Alabama on January 26, 2008." Those who know Andre know that he is always making good plays. The best play is his last, when he decided to return to Florida for his senior year after his team won the BCS Championship in his Junior year.
