CEA Awards $25,000 in Scholarships and Grants for Students to Study Abroad this Spring

Study abroad provider recently awarded $25,000 in scholarships and grants to 10 college undergrads who will study abroad this Spring. CEA has dedicated more than $100,000 in scholarships in 2008 to make study abroad a reality for over 40 students.

Tempe, AZ (PRWEB) February 6, 2008 -- Increasing its dedication to democratize study abroad, CEA has committed more than $100,000 in scholarships and grants in 2008, recently awarding $25,000 to 10 college undergrads who will study abroad this Spring. CEA, the leading global marketplace for quality study abroad programs for university and college students in the U.S. and Canada, awards scholarships each term to students who seek financial assistance for trimester, semester, summer and year-long study abroad programs.

Scholarship recipients are chosen based upon academic achievement, potential for leadership and their investment in their communities. Each applicant is also required to complete an original essay which is judged by an independent selection committee. Spring 2008 study abroad scholarships have been awarded across five categories to the following students:

Chris Towns France Scholarship - In memory of a former CEA Paris student, this scholarship is open to students who demonstrate involvement in extracurricular activities centered on multicultural or international issues.

  • 1st place: Andrea Blunt, California State University - Monterey Bay, $3,000 and fellowship
  • 2nd place: Jamieson Hardee, University of South Carolina - Columbia, $2,000

Foreign Language Scholarship - Open to students taking six credits of foreign language instruction/foreign language instructed electives during their CEA study abroad program.
  • 1st place: Nicole Rosenberg, University of Maryland - College Park, $3,000 and fellowship
  • 2nd place:- Katelyn Frohling, San Diego State University, $2,000

Global Education Scholarship - Open to students who have applied for any CEA trimester, semester or year program.
  • 1st place: Amanda Aaron, University of Maryland - College Park, $3,000 and fellowship
  • 2nd place: Luz Gossmann, University of Arizona, $2,000

Academic Excellence Scholarship - Open to students who have applied for any CEA trimester, semester or year program and have a minimum GPA of 3.3.
  • 1st place: Erin Hunter, Clemson University, $3,000 and fellowship
  • 2nd place: Sara Emig, Baylor University, $2,000

CEA Grant - Open to students that receive financial aid at their home institution.
  • 1st place: Ladan Afifi, University of California - Berkeley, $3,000 and fellowship
  • 2nd place: Rachel Dunnington, Willamette University, $2,000
