Knowledge Is Power: New Website Launches For Women With Melasma

Millions of people affected by skin condition now have website for information.
Daugenti explained. I now feel that I was given melasma to be a voice for women. I want to raise consciousness about a condition most doctors know little about. The supportive emails I have received confirm that I am on the right path, and I will continue on this path until we find a cure.

(PRWEB) February 19, 2008 -- Melasma, the skin condition in which the areas of the face, including the upper lip, chin and forehead, are inflicted with persistent brown spots, is more common than people think. It affects millions in the U.S. alone, yet it is rarely talked about. Its existence shatters self confidence and diminishes the quality of life in young women who spin their wheels seeking miracle cures. Nancy Daugenti was one of those women. Armed with firsthand knowledge of the trials and tribulations melasma sufferers face, she spent six years researching the condition in an effort to launch www.melacor.net. The website is designed for women with melasma to access the latest news and information while forming a close network of others who share their condition. The ultimate goal is to find a common thread that can assist in researching a cure.

When I got melasma 12 years ago, I had always asked ‘why me? I went through a period of feeling sorry for myself. Then I became angry. All of those negative emotions got tiring, so I decided to make it a mission to find the answers and help others do the same," Daugenti explained. I now feel that I was given melasma to be a voice for women. I want to raise consciousness about a condition most doctors know little about. The supportive emails I have received confirm that I am on the right path, and I will continue on this path until we find a cure."

Melasma is most commonly triggered by ovarian disorders and can be related to menopause or pregnancy, although it is infrequently seen in men. The exact size and tone of the spots varies from person to person, but melasma generally manifests in larger, erratic patches a few shades darker than the skin, much like a birth mark. Persons who have skin tones ranging from light olive to very dark olive are particularly susceptible to the condition. Repeat exposure to UV rays is also believed to be a large contributor.

Women who log on to www.melacor.net are taken to the home page with a message from Daugenti, explaining the site is a place to go for information. Users are invited to share their successes and challenges in forums, communicating their stories to others who share a common understanding of the day-to-day difficulties of dealing with a condition that affects ones self-esteem and confidence. In addition, users can click a link to a confidential research study after exploring a variety of pages that address topics such as what is melasma, what we know, treatments, forums and products.

Daugenti also offers Melacor, an oral melasma management system she developed with chemists and researchers after years of searching for homeopathic solutions, in an online store. Melacor is a combination of natural ingredients that help manage melasma as they treat it from the inside out, causing no damage or stress to skin texture or appearance. The antioxidant tablets help support adrenal gland deficiencies, maintain healthier copper levels and reduce the bodys alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone. A minimum three-month regimen is recommended, and though Daugenti says most women see a difference in a matter of weeks, she does not claim to have a cure, but a way to manage the condition.

Melacor focuses on melasma internally, targeting some of the known causes," Daugenti explained. Currently the treatments available for melasma are topical and have long term negative side effects. Melacor treats melasma by getting to the core of the problem, not just treating the symptoms.
