Last week in Orlando at the 2008 International Builder's Show (IBS), visitors who toured Builder Magazine's Tradewinds show home were inspired by a unique collection of doors by TruStile. One of the most commented-on design elements in the home, the selections from TruStile's Designer Door collection illustrate that doors are just as important as any other component that goes into a custom home.

Constructed in an urban redevelopment community in Orlando's Baldwin Park, Tradewinds offers nearly 7,400 square feet of sustainable, lakeside luxury and innovative building products. One of the most striking design elements in the home is the bank of closet doors in the main entry corridor. Part of TruStile's Designer Door collection, the paint-grade MDF doors feature circular inserts with 3form® eco-resin and Capiz seashells. The closets are outfitted with ambient lighting that makes that doors stand out, even in the evening. "The contemporary door style worked well with the home's modern, lakefront design, demonstrating that doors can be a powerful design element -- just as powerful as any other interior component," says Jason Mounts, director of marketing at TruStile. "As one of Tradewinds' premier sponsors, we had a great opportunity to showcase TruStile's forward-looking design leadership and manufacturing flexibility."

Another Tradewinds' highlight is the rich TruStile mahogany master bedroom doors, complete with blue-stain finish. "In the master suite area, we had ordered nice, mahogany paneled doors. Much of the interior, including beams and cabinetry, was made of cypress wood, and we felt that a traditional stain would not be a good fit," said Pistulka. "The design team came up with the idea for a blue stain, and TruStile's mahogany doors accepted the stain very well. It gave them a very unique finish."

"The main thing we loved about TruStile was the variety of styles and options to choose from," says Dave Brown, team member and co-owner of Brown & Deddens Design Studio. "They offer so many materials, finishes and door grades, and then there's the decorative part, as well. It made it easy for us to carry a design theme throughout the Tradewinds home." Other doors in the home included three-panel MDF doors and another unique, Art Deco-inspired selection from TruStile's Designer Door collection.
