Comics on Phones: We The Robots, Foxymoron, and Disquietville Go Mobile with GoComics

A trio of cartoonists who have risen to acclaim as members of the growing Kansas City comics community have agreed to bring their cartoon creations to mobile phones through GoComics. A trio of cartoonists who have risen to acclaim as members of the growing Kansas City comics community have agreed to bring their cartoon creations to mobile phones through GoComics.

We The Robots by Chris Harding, Foxymoron by Travis Fox and Disquietville by Daniel Spottswood will make their mobile phone debuts in late March as part of a new GoComics mobile comics line promoting the work of local cartoonists.

Harding's webcomic We The Robots has grown a large online audience since its debut. The strip is published online three times weekly and follows the humorous and often melancholy exploits of robots who have replaced humanity as the planet's dominant life form, with all the cubicle jobs, traffic jams and high school peer pressure that modern human life entails.

Fox and Spottswood have spent the last several years at the center of the growing Kansas City comics and cartooning community. Both have had their strips become staples of the Kansas City Star's Preview section and are part of the comic collective blog ComicStrip Joint (http://comicstripjoint.blogspot.com/). The blog features their work as well as that of other Kansas City cartoonists, such as Josh Cotter (Skyscrapers of the Midwest) and Hector Casanova (The Lurkers, Screamland).

Fox has been hilariously weaving together tales of family life and pop culture to produce the mini-comic Foxymoron for several years. The strip was selected in 2006 as one of the year's top mini-comics by Wizard Magazine, which called Fox "the freshest in a long line of social commentary comic creators…Fox stirs his own brand of humor with an attractive art style that keeps the tone fun, but very relevant."

"Now that GoComics will be distributing Foxymoron," said Fox, "I'll no longer feel the need to run over to my local coffee shop on a weekly basis and paste my comic strip onto people's phones with rubber cement! The amount of money they're paying me should totally cover the impending lawsuits. Thanks, GoComics!"

Daniel Spottswood's Disquietville follows a quintet of seemingly "normal" people: Doug, a disgruntled deli worker; Milo, an overbearing jerk; Patrick, a tortured artist; and Margie and Sam, a young college couple. These lives intersect at fascinating points as the characters contemplate the joys and failings of modern life.

"The GoComics reader is an exciting venue for comic strips," said Spottswood, "and I feel privileged to be a part of it."
