Bon Secours Health System Partners with EnovateIT to Enhance Patient Safety

Bon Secours Health System, Inc. (BSHSI) partners with EnovateIT, implementing Electronic Medication Administration Records with Barcode Medication Verification throughout several of BSHSI hospitals.

Ferndale, Mich. (PRWEB) March 6, 2008 -- Patients receiving medication at a number of Bon Secours Health System facilities can rest assured they are getting exactly what the doctor prescribed, thanks to a partnership with EnovateIT, a national medical technology provider. Bon Secours Health System, Inc. (BSHSI), a not-for-profit Catholic health system, has steadily been implementing an Electronic Medication Administration Record with Barcode Medication Verification throughout several of its hospitals.

"We are very pleased to be able to offer this added safety feature to our patients," said Jeff Pearson, Director of IS Architecture at BSHSI. "EnovateIT has been instrumental in working with us to assess our hardware requirements on a hospital-by-hospital and even unit-by-unit basis, and their expertise and consultative approach have proven enormously beneficial to Bon Secours."

In most cases we can provide customized solutions to meet the specific requirements of each client.
To provide the most effective care for the BSHSI facilities, EnovateIT worked closely with executives and staff to recommend the best equipment for each facility.

"As we do with each consultation, we assess the needs and priorities of each facility," said Doug Gallacher, Director of Eastern Region Sales for EnovateIT. "In most cases we can provide customized solutions to meet the specific requirements of each client."

At BSHSI, Enovate IT's solutions are comprised of point-of-care computing carts, integrated medication carts, wall mounted computer workstations, infection control input devices and barcode scanners. In order to deliver this wide range of equipment Enovate IT partners with several "best-of-breed" manufacturers and maintains an in-house design / development team that handles product integration and customization.

While mobile devices make up a significant portion of the equipment set, certain environments and workflows are better suited to wall mounted computers. "It's definitely not a one-size-fits-all approach," suggests Gallacher. "We work closely with our customers to determine the best combination of devices and then look to provide a comprehensive solution."

Chris Woodruff, Project Director - Enterprise Bar-coding and Pharmacy Information Systems for BSHSI, sums it up best. "Our relationship with Enovate IT has allowed us to maintain our corporate computing systems standards while empowering our staff to choose from a variety of high quality equipment to be used as a platform for our Bedside Bar-coding Medication Administration initiative. The flexibility in equipment choices from various computer carts to wall mounts able to be adapted to different patient care areas, each with its own unique needs and requirements, has ensured our staff quick adoption and continued success with our bedside solution helping us to accomplish our goal of barcode scanning every patient, every time for medication administration. Enovate IT has played a vital role as a liaison between us and our manufacturers of choice to oversee delivery schedules, issue resolution and product development. We have been very pleased with the services that EnovateIT provides."
