Argonne Chief to Address Impact of Science Funding Cuts

Rosner to keynote launch event for C2ST, new Chicago science council

Chicago (PRWEB) March 10, 2008 -- Robert Rosner, director of Argonne National Laboratory, will address "The Future of Science in Illinois" in the wake of recent federal funding cutbacks in a special presentation Wednesday, March 12, at the Chicago Cultural Center, Preston Bradley Hall, 4th Fl.

This is the official launch event for the program's sponsor, the Chicago Council on Science and Techology (C2ST). Alan Schriesheim, Argonne's director emeritus and the founding president of C2ST, will introduce Rosner at the event.

Rosner's topic is a subject of intense interest among the Illinois scientific community in light of the funding cuts that occurred when Congress and President Bush hammered out a compromise Omnibus budget at the close of 2007. Argonne and the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory are the engines that drive science, technology and knowledge economy growth in Illinois. The funding cutbacks will result in more than 200 layoffs at Fermilab alone and are expected to reduce the labs' capabilities to serve the business and academic communities in Illinois, the nation and the world.

Registration for the program begins at 5 p.m., followed by the presentation and discussion at 5:30 p.m. Members of C2ST can register in advance and free of charge by calling Erin Dragotto at 312-503-0891 or by sending an email to erindragotto @ gmail.com. There will be a $10 charge for non-members registering at the door.
