Green Columbus 'Gets Busy' For Earth Week

Taking care of our environment is much too important to last for just one day, and this year Green Columbus has scheduled a full week of activities focused around celebrating and participating in Earth Day 2008. Building on the impressive turnout of their 2007 A Year in a Day event, Green Columbus has announced Now Get Busy! as the title of this year's event, a phrase to spur participants city-wide into action in the week beginning Saturday, April 19.

Columbus, OH (PRWEB) March 16, 2008 -- Taking care of our environment is much too important to last for just one day, and this year Green Columbus has scheduled a full week of activities focused around celebrating and participating in Earth Day 2008. Building on the impressive turnout of their 2007 A Year in a Day event, Green Columbus has announced Now Get Busy! as the title of this year's event, a phrase to spur participants city-wide into action in the week beginning Saturday, April 19.

As the headliner for the week-long event, Green Columbus is coordinating a multitude of worksites to be made available to volunteers on the morning of Saturday, April 26. Nearly 1,400 volunteers pitched in at the last Earth Day, and the goal has been set for 2,500 local area citizens to come out and help the cause this year. All their hard work will be rewarded with a free lunch donated by Whole Foods Market, Jeni's Ice Cream, and Clintonville Community Market as well as a major celebration for guests of all ages at Goodale Park. Two stages will be set up for entertainment including live music and speakers. The celebration will also feature kids activities and will be a zero waste event, with everything either recycled or composted.

"The volunteer work of 2,500 Central Ohioans in a unified cause will result in cleaner rivers, the planting of hundreds of trees, and all manner of community beautification," said Tad Dritz, Green Columbus' lead organizer. "We are proud to bring together these volunteers and are excited about celebrating a job well done!"

Columbus Zoo and Aquarium's Earth Day event, a benefit concert, special film screening at Studio 35, tai chi demonstration, and popular children's character appearances round out the rest of this Earth Week celebration. Green Columbus has been working with The CW on WWHO-TV, Columbus Foundation, Comfest, Corna/Kokosing, Great Lakes Brewing Co., Brighter Minds Media, MORPC, and Grossman Group to ensure an array of exciting events and is also providing booths at Goodale Park for environmental friendly organizations.
