Dailymotion Launches Gay and Lesbian Channel

Dailymotion, the world's largest independent video sharing site, today announced "Gay & Lesbian" as the latest addition to the site's popular channel line-up. Programming to highlight entertaining content reflecting the unique perspectives and interests of the LGBT community

New York, NY (PRWEB) March 19, 2008 - Dailymotion, the world's largest independent video sharing site, today announced "Gay & Lesbian" as the latest addition to the site's popular channel line-up. Dailymotion is among the first video entertainment sites to offer such a channel. "Gay & Lesbian" will include a unique blend of specially-selected content both for and about the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community that will serve to entertain and educate Dailymotion's growing audience in the United States.

Dailymotion's Gay & Lesbian channel will explore LGBT culture through programming that includes music videos, lifestyle vlogs, sketch and stand-up comedy videos, film trailers, travel videos, web originals and Hollywood TV programs. Initial programming will include selections from Strand Releasing, Universal Music, OutDrive.tv and MTV Networks' Logo, which offers content from the 24/7 digital cable channel as well as a federation of online properties including AfterEllen.com (www.afterellen.com), AfterElton.com (www.afterelton.com), 365gay.com (www.365gay.com), NewNowNext.com (www.newnownext.com) and Downelink.com (www.downelink.com). As with the site's existing thematically-categorized channels such as Funny, Music, News & Politics and Sports & Extreme, Gay & Lesbian will be specially programmed by Dailymotion's creative managers to feature videos from both professional content producers as well as Dailymotion's Motionmaker program for its most creative users. This unique strategy of combining professional along with user-generated content around users' areas of interest is designed to deliver the most well-rounded selection of content while making it easier for viewers to discover, view and share the videos they love.

"We believe that bringing the highest quality programming to our audience includes creating channels that match their interests," commented Joy Marcus, Dailymotion's general manager, U.S. "Dailymotion's launch of our Gay and Lesbian channel makes us one of the first online video destinations to respond to the huge demand for quality online video entertainment by this audience."

Dailymotion is one of the first major video entertainment sites to provide a specific area for curated content appealing to the estimated 12-plus million LGBT Internet users in the US*, a population of which over 30 percent spend up to 168 hours per week online†.

"Recent surveys have revealed that gays, lesbians and bisexuals spend more time online than their heterosexual counterparts--especially on social networks and other specialty websites. Still, their interests remain underrepresented by most mainstream websites," said Danny Passman, Dailymotion's senior creative director. "Dailymotion is proud to dedicate a channel to programming specifically for and about this important group, and we hope it serves to inform and to inspire as well as entertain."
