HoleBlok+™ Environmental Grout/Sealant Provides Benefits Over Standard Bentonite at Direct Push Injection Remediation Sites

The benefits of HoleBlok+ were recently demonstrated at a former agricultural site in the central U.S. where a remedial action was performed to address a subsurface environment impacted by chlorinated solvents and pesticides.

Toledo, Ohio (PRWEB) March 30, 2008 -- AquaBlok, Ltd., manufacturers of innovative clay-based composite materials, is pleased to report the successful completion of two recent installations of a new annular well sealant and hole plug material.

HoleBlok+ is a pourable dry grout / sealant that combines a new approach for placement of high-solids bentonite product to plug holes or seal annular spaces (i.e. in monitoring wells) with the proven benefits zero-valent iron (ZVI) to help minimize the potential for cross-contamination of surficial ground water zones along the length of borings or penetrations.

The benefits of HoleBlok+ were recently demonstrated at a former agricultural site in the central U.S. where a remedial action was performed to address a subsurface environment impacted by chlorinated solvents and pesticides. During remedial action at the site, direct push technology (DPT) was used to inject EHC® (www.adventusgroup.com) in-situ chemical reduction (ISCR) reagent to induce contaminant destruction. Following each injection, HoleBlok+ was used as a high solids seal to permanently plug the void spaces created from each injection point. It was reported that use of the pourable HoleBlok+ product provided rapid, easy and thorough sealing of the DPT void spaces. Unlike previously used liquid grouts, the high solids seal provided by HoleBlok+ remained tightly in place in prior bore holes in spite of close proximity high pressure injections. It was also determined that the unique presence of ZVI in the HoleBlok+ in the abandoned bore holes will effectively reduce any absorption of residual contaminants by the bentonite grouts and predictably enhance the remedial affect of the ISCR technology at the overall site.

Prior to use of HoleBlok+ in field demonstrations such as described above, independent lab tests were undertaken to confirm that the product would not have any impact or reactivity with surrounding groundwater. Leachability in a simulated well/annular environment was tested. Comparison was made to a control, where no sealant was used. The conclusion confirmed that both products perform as well or better than other currently commercially available well sealant products.

The delivered price of the HoleBlok+ material was lower than equivalent conventional coated bentonite pellets. In addition, the product completely prevented short circuiting of injected materials through the previous DPT voids, which translated into a more timely project completion.

Available Products and Pricing
HoleBlok+ is available in either 50lb. plastic pails or paper bags and can be purchased in pallet quantities. For much larger quantity requirements, HoleBlok+ products can also be supplied in FIBC bulk bags of approximately 2,500lb. size.
