Saint Joseph's University Launches New Master's Degree in Business Intelligence

Online MS-BI prepares professionals for growth in competitive field while allowing the flexibility your current career demands.

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) April 15, 2008 -- The Erivan K. Haub School of Business at Saint Joseph's University (www.sju-online.com) announces its new online Master of Science in Business Intelligence (MS-BI). The MS-BI degree is designed to prepare professionals for growth in a field considered one of the fastest growing areas of Information Technology and to serve a business world increasingly controlled by metrics and data-driven operations.

Business Intelligence focuses on identifying, acquiring and reporting the data needed to make informed business decisions. It has become a particularly essential function in large corporations because it provides the ability to manage growing volumes of complex data.

Large businesses will need three times as many Business Intelligence personnel in 2008 as they did in 2004, according to projections released recently by the research firm Gartner Inc., and reported by Business Intelligence Pipeline. The same study found that finance, marketing, forecasting and sales are the primary business functions currently using BI professionals across the nation, while financial and consumer services companies are the industries seeing the greatest expansion in Business Intelligence applications.

"Companies today are constantly analyzing the massive information and data that is available to them," says Richard Herschel, chair of the Business Intelligence program of the Haub School of Business at Saint Joseph's University. "The challenge is not just accessing this data, but truly understanding what knowledge can be realized from it. Business Intelligence professionals are in high demand for their ability to understand and articulate data in a way that helps organizations improve their competitive position. That is why an MS-BI can be a true differentiator in a student's career path."

Saint Joseph's MS-BI seeks to put technology and mathematical concepts into a relevant, functional business application context. Students gain key analytical skills needed to define and implement key performance metrics across business units.

"Companies continue to approach us to hire students who complete our undergraduate and graduate campus programs -- there are always more jobs than we have graduates," Herschel says. "We are excited to launch the fully online MS-BI program to reach a broader, national audience and prepare students for roles in Business Intelligence that are increasingly in demand. As educators, we are simply responding to the existing demands of the professional market."
