U.S. Debut of Colors 73 -- Money at The Academy of Art University

The Academy of Art University 79 Theater was packed with graphic and fine art students, professionals, and media, all there to hear the creative team from Fabrica and Colors magazine debut the 73rd issue of Colors magazine titled Money.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) May 2, 2008 -- Acclaimed director of video and film at Fabrica, Babak Payami, along with Enrico Bossan and Erik Ravelo, the editorial and creative directors of Colors magazine gave the engaging presentation during their three-day visit to the Academy.

Why is money the topic for this issue? Colors Creative Director, Erik Ravelo explained that after having money tested in a lab for surface substances, what was discovered -- including bacteria that could not be identified -- shaped the direction. "Money is so interesting, it is such a huge part of our world, but we know little about it. What is money? It is not a particular thing, it is an institution, just something we choose to give value to. This issue takes an ironic view of those choices, and distorts our perception of what we think is valuable," says Ravelo.

The presentation and was followed by an opening exhibition of Colors 73 -- Money, held in the Academy's 79 Gallery. The photography exhibition and installation was comprised of large blow-ups of the compelling photography and subject matter featured in Colors' current issue, which tackles the topic of money, and its perception and value throughout the world. A giant podium made up of stacks of the issue was the centerpiece of the exhibition, at the end of the evening the straps holding the stacks were cut, and the podium was disassembled as guests took copies of the magazine home.

Colors magazine is published by Fabrica, Benetton Group's communications research center. The quarterly magazine is published in four languages and sold in over 40 countries. Thirteen issues of Colors were ranked by Good magazine as "The 51 Best Magazines Ever", and the full series of Colors was included in the 25/25 exhibition, featuring the 25 most influential design objects of the past 25 years, at the Design Museum, London.
