London, UK (PRWEB) May 10, 2008 -- The Comedy Smalls (www.thesmalls.com) in association with Paramount Comedy announces that Time Out Comedy winner and Edinburgh Fringe favourite Stephen K Amos, will be part of the judging panel scrutinising the 2008 comedy short film entries. Amos will also host the Awards Show at the Truman Brewery in June.

The Comedy Smalls now has two of the world's leading broadcasters and authorities on comedy supporting this year's competition. Long standing partner Paramount Comedy is being joined by Comedy Central in the transatlantic search for the next big name in comedy.

The judges for The Comedy Smalls 2008 are:

Stephen K Amos - Comedian
Kathleen Hutchison - Head Of New Comedy, Paramount Comedy
Chris Hancox - VP Marketing and Creative Services, Paramount Comedy
JoAnn Grigioni - Director Talent, Comedy Central
Christina Lee - Coordinator Development, Comedy Central
Andrew Pulver - Film writer, The Guardian
Eliza Williams - Writer, Creative Review
Andi Granger - Creative Director, Sky One
Richard Holman - Creative Director, devilfish

The Comedy Smalls brings emerging comedy writers, directors and performers together with industry executives, providing a unique opportunity for the winner to get an original idea commissioned by Paramount Comedy. This is a chance for new talent to be discovered by the channel who helped launch some of the UK's best loved comedy talent e.g. Sasha Baron Cohen, Simon Pegg and Matt Lucas.

This year's theme is WORK and anyone can enter by submitting a short film of up to 5 minutes at www.TheSmalls.com. The deadline for entries is May 30, 2008. All shortlisted films will be screened on Paramount Comedy.

Last year's winners include Jamie Glassman, Matthew Steer and Jon Levene who have had a 10 part series of comedy shorts commissioned by Paramount Comedy and Clay Weiner and John Roberts, who have had three sketches licensed.

The Smalls is a curator of independent short film, committed to the discovery and promotion of new talent through the website www.TheSmalls.com, events and competitions.
