Marco Island Resort Raises Money for Charity

Managers Participate in American Cancer Society and Muscular Dystrophy Events

Marco Island, FL (PRWEB) May 18, 2008 -- The management and staff of the Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort have shown their commitment to giving back to the community with participation in two recent fundraisers. More than $12,000 was raised for the American Red Cross and Muscular Dystrophy Association local chapters by the Florida Gulf Coast resort.

Rick Medwedeff, general manager of the Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort spearheaded the Muscular Dystrophy Association fundraiser by participating in a staged "arrest" event. He was "arrested," put in handcuffs and driven to the Florida Gulf Coast hotel in a police car. Donors had to raise a minimum of $2,000 in bail money to have him released.

"Many Marriott associates helped release Rick by donating to this very worthy cause," said resident manager Mike Tighe. Medwedeff raised $3,825, far surpassing his minimum bail goal.

Other Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort "arrests" to raise money for the MDA included: Steve Lipschutz, director of food and beverage; Eyal Goldberger, Kurrents restaurant manager; Bianca O'Neil, Quinn's restaurant manager; Lisa Grover, event manager. The Muscular Dystrophy event was a tremendous success and raised $5,000 for the charity.

Well-known for being an area leader in supporting charitable causes, the Florida resort's associates also participated in the local American Cancer Association's Relay for Life. Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort associates raised $8,000 and garnered the largest representation of any team throughout the race. The Florida Gulf Coast resort truly demonstrated the Marriott "Spirit to Serve," which is a key element of Marriott's business culture.
